In the 1950s, after the Korean War, Woo-ryong, a kind-hearted, limp piper, and his sickly young son, Young-nam, are walking across the highlands of central Korea toward Seoul when they arrive at a remote village. The village chief allows Woo-ryong and his son to stay in his house.
